Diameter-Constrained Steiner Tree

چکیده
Given an edge-weighted undirected graph G = (V,E, c, w), where each edge e ∈ E has a cost c(e) and a weight w(e), a set S ⊆ V of terminals and a positive constant D0, we seek a minimum cost Steiner tree where all terminals appear as leaves and its diameter is bounded by D0. Note that the diameter of a tree represents the maximum weight of path connecting two different leaves in the tree. Such problem is called the minimum cost diameter-constrained Steiner tree problem. This problem is NP-hard even when the topology of Steiner tree is fixed. In present paper we focus on this restricted version and present a fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS) for computing a minimum cost diameter-constrained Steiner tree under a fixed topology.

Modeling hop-constrained and diameter-constrained minimum spanning tree problems as Steiner tree problems over layered graphs
The Hop-Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree Problem (HMSTP) is a NP-hard problem arising in the design of centralized telecommunication networks with quality of service constraints. We show that the HMSTP is equivalent to a Steiner Tree Problem (STP) in an adequate layered graph. We prove that the directed cut formulation for the STP defined in the layered graph, dominates (in terms of the linear...
متن کاملNetwork flow models for designing diameter-constrained minimum-spanning and Steiner trees
The Diameter-Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree Problem seeks a least cost spanning tree subject to a (diameter) bound imposed on the number of edges in the tree between any node pair. A traditional multicommodity flow model with a commodity for every pair of nodes was unable to solve a 20-node and 100-edge problem after one week of computation. We formulate the problem as a directed tree from a...
متن کاملThe two-level diameter constrained spanning tree problem
In this article, we introduce the Two-Level Diameter Constrained Spanning Tree Problem (2-DMSTP) which generalizes the classical DMSTP by considering two sets of nodes with different latency requirements. We first observe that any feasible solution to the 2-DMSTP can be viewed as a DMST that contains a diameter constrained Steiner tree. This observation allows us to prove graph theoretical prop...
متن کاملA sharp threshold for minimum bounded-depth/diameter spanning and Steiner trees
In the complete graph on n vertices, when each edge has a weight which is an exponential random variable, Frieze proved that the minimum spanning tree has weight tending to ζ(3) = 1/13 + 1/23 + 1/33 + · · · as n → ∞. We consider spanning trees constrained to have depth bounded by k from a specified root. We prove that if k ≥ log2 log n+ω(1), where ω(1) is any function going to ∞ with n, then th...
متن کاملAn intersecting tree model for odd-diameter-constrained minimum spanning and Steiner trees
In a previous paper, using underlying graph theoretical properties, Gouveia and Magnanti (2003) described several network flow-based formulations for diameter-constrained tree problems. Their computational results showed that, even with several enhancements, models for situations when the tree diameter D is odd proved to be more difficult to solve than those when D is even. In this work we prov...
